Parents and their children relate when the pelican sisters are upset, don't understand, and worried.  They giggle when the pelican sisters play pranks and react to their new lifestyle changes with confusion, insecurity, and frustration.   As the story continues, The sisters also realize that many adults really care about them and they can also take steps toward self-care.  Life gets easier and better as the pelican sisters look for the good in everything.  They think of things that they can do to be happier, which includes reading stories about kids who struggle and find happiness, so they share lists of their favorite books.  Parents, children, and the pelicans sisters become aware that they all possess the same positive powers within themselves to deal with change by embracing I CAN, the last four letters of the word pelican.
